Paragraph 1:
Paragraph 1:
- Topic Sentence-Without the soldiers under their command they could have never gotten as far as they did.
- Evidence-John Miller had a team of specialists and Douglas MacArthur commanded a large amount of troops in the southwestern Pacific.
- Analysis-This gave them a large advantage at times when in combat.
- Transition-When they did use their advantages they made many accomplishments in war and it was because it was the choices they made.
Paragraph 2:
- Topic Sentence-Douglas MacArthur, along with John Miller, both became very successful in their careers because of the decisions they made.
- Evidence-Douglas MacArthur made one of the most daring and successful military maneuvers of modern times, MacArthur landed troops at Inchon, far behind North Korean lines. The result was a rout of enemy forces, and the North Koreans were pushed back nearly to China. John Miller made a very similar move that was considered courageous after Miller was given a special mission to retrieve a 101st Airborne paratrooper, Private James Ryan, whose three brothers had been recently killed in combat. Miller and his men set out for Neuville to search for Ryan and eventually had to defend against the numerical superiority and equipment of the Germans in order to keep James Ryan safe.
- Analysis-Even though their decisions may have been illogical at times it was for a good cause.
- Topic Sentence-In order to do what they felt was right they both did whatever was necessary.
- Evidence-MacArthur's wanted continue fighting the Koreans North of the Korean border in order to protect the thirty-eighth parallel and Truman did not want to expand the conflict. MacArthur, in turn, made public his dissatisfaction with Truman's position. So began a power struggle that culminated in April 1951, with Truman's dismissal of MacArthur for insubordination.
- Analysis-Even though Truman had not accepted MacArthur's decision he still tried to urge him to agree which eventually led to his dismissal. John Miller, knowing the Germans were better equiped, stayed and risked his life to protect James Ryan.
